Welcome to Miss Myers' Class!
We are now in the preliminary term before the next academic year.
Maths: We are finishing of Multiplication and Division before we move onto Fractions, where our knowledge of times tables will support us. Year 3s are finishing off their multiplication and Division as well before moving onto money.
To support us in our knowledge of times tables, we will be having a bi-weekly times table test. You can help yourselves by practicing your times tables at home on Times Table Rockstars or by writing them out yourself and asking your parent/carer to test you.
Writing: In Writing we will be focusing on some Poetry linked to mining as well as a book called Town by the Sea. We will be covering a variety of styles within writing including letters, persuasive writing and stories.
Once a week we have a Grammar focus lesson through which we will be focusing on present perfect and simple past tense, using a or an correctly, expanded noun phrases and fronted adverbials.
Reading: We will continue to develop our reading skills this term through the use of RIC (Retrieve, Interpret and Choice) as well as continue to develop our Inference skills. We will be focusing on two books: You wouldn't want to be a Victorian Miner and Science Works: Electricity.
Please make sure to send in a video of you reading at home through class dojo. If you are unsure of how to do this, please let me know and I will message you with instructions through the message app on dojo. Reading is an important part of learning and the more you continue to read, the more things you will learn. You can use the Oxford Owl website to find books to read online as well as take a book home from school to read.
Science: In science this term we will be focusing on Electricity. Through this topic, we will be focusing on a variety of things, including identifying common electrical components, constructing a simple electrical circuit and identifying why a circuit might not work.
History/Geography: We will be focusing on Geography this term and looking into Mining in the local area. We will be looking at what life as a miner was like, how coal was formed and delving a bit into the history of coal mines.
P.E is on a Tuesday and Friday. Due to Covid, children need to come in their PE kit. Please make sure your child has the correct PE kit, plain white t-shirt and plain black or blue trousers. No logos. As we will be outside, please ensure children are dressed appropriately. Please can you also make sure that all jewellery is removed.
Homework this year will be focusing on children reading at home, spellings and practicing their times tables.
Spellings: Set on spelling shed every Monday.
