Welcome to Miss Gudgin's Year 3 Class Page
Summer Term 1
We are excited to be back at school for the Summer term.
We have a fantastic History Topic of ‘The Romans’ to link our learning together this half term and we are sure to have lots of fun along the way.
We are finishing off Money before we move onto Statistics and Measure: Length, where our knowledge of times tables will support us.
To support us in our knowledge of times tables, we will be having a times table test twice a week. You can help yourselves by practicing your times tables at home on Times Table Rockstars or by writing them out yourself and asking your parent/carer to test you.
In Writing we will be focusing on two fiction books across this half term: ‘How to Live Forever’ and ‘Escape from Pompeii’. We will be covering a variety of writing styles including persuasive writing, short stories and dialogue.
Once a week we have a Grammar focus lesson through which we will be focusing on using a or an correctly, expanded noun phrases, prepositions, fronted adverbials, adverbial clauses, subordinate conjunctions and clauses.
We will continue to develop our reading skills this term through the use of RIC (Retrieve, Interpret and Choice) as well as continue to develop our Inference skills. We will be focusing on two books: The Fatal Fire and Forces and Magnets.
Please make sure to send in a video of you reading at home through class dojo. If you are unsure of how to do this, please let me know and I will message you with instructions through the message app on dojo. Reading is an important part of learning and the more you continue to read, the more things you will learn. You can use the Oxford Owl website to find books to read online as well as take a book home from school to read.
In Science this term, we will be focusing on Forces and Magnets. Through this topic, we will be focusing on a variety of things, including: types of forces, friction, magnet strength, magnetic poles, sorting materials, compasses and attracting and repelling magnets.
We will be focusing on History this half term discovering the life of The Romans and how they have helped to shape the world we live in today. We will explore: invaders and settlers, Boudicca’s rebellion, Roads, Hadrian’s Wall, God’s and Goddesses, Roman Baths, Roman Armies and Life and The Roman Empire.
Alongside our History topic of the Romans, we will be designing and making Roman shields and mosaics, as well as practicing and refining our techniques and skills in shading, cross hatching and textures.
PE: Our PE days are on Monday and Wednesday. Each lesson we have a 5-minute warm up followed by stretches and a 5-minute cool down at the end of each lesson. Monday’s lessons are usually skill based, whereas, Wednesday’s lessons are more focused around a particular game or sport. This half term we will be finishing our unit on Basketball before moving to Rounders.
P.E is on a Monday and Wednesday. Due to Covid, children need to come in their PE kit. Please make sure your child has the correct PE kit, plain white t-shirt and plain black or blue trousers. No logos. As we will be outside, please ensure children are dressed appropriately. Please can you also make sure that all jewellery is removed.
This year will be focusing on children reading at home, spellings and practicing their times tables.
These are tested every Monday and new spellings are set on spelling shed the same day.
Checked on a Monday. Please send in a video through class dojo. Children’s in-class reading books are changed each week when they are read with by an adult.
·Times Table Rockstars: Challenges will be set on a weekly basis.
