Autumn 2 TermNumeracy
This term the children will be using the power maths scheme covering: Unit 3 - Addition and Subtraction (add and subtract numbers mentally, add and subtract numbers up to three digits, using formal written methods of columnar addition and subtraction, solve problems, including missing number problems, using number facts, place value, and more complex addition and subtraction, a three-digit number and ones, a three-digit number and tens and a three-digit number and hundreds) Unit 4/5 - - Multiplication and division (multiply/divide by 3, multiply/divide by 4, multiply/divide by 8, look at what arrays represent, comparing statements, multiplying 2 digit by 1 digit, divide 2 digit by 1 digit, Writing statements for multiplications and division, positive integer scaling problems, mixed multiplication and addition/subtraction questions) Literacy We will be studying two texts this term:
Year 3 grammar objectives: -Coordinating conjunctions -Subordinating conjunctions -Contractions -Modal verbs -Identifying regular and irregular plurals WCR In our whole class guided reading we will be reading UG and Stone age boy to be in keeping with this terms theme. We will focus on three skills by retrieving, interpreting and choosing for our RICS. We will take a more in depth look at the texts and develop our inference skills and use of background knowledge. Science Within Science we will be studying ‘Animals Including Humans’, within this topic we will look at: - Types of Nutrition/Food Groups - Types of Skeletons - Function of a Skeleton - Naming and Locating different bones - Naming and Locating different muscles History This term we will be learning about changes in Britain within the stone age. We will be looking at: - The lives of Neolithic people - Technology and key inventions - Prehistoric counting systems - Skara Brae and the connected beliefs - Cave drawings R.E In R.E this term we will be exploring the ideas surrounding epiphany. Our objectives include understanding the word, learning about the dates and traditions of Epiphany, distinguishing the roles of the three kings, understand what the gift were and what they symbolised and to recognise the imagery and songs associated with epiphany. Things to note On Monday and Wednesday the children will need to come to school in their PE kit and they will remain in it all day. We will be following schemes for Spelling, Music, PE, Computing and French. Art is integrated by following the themes of the term. This term the children will be developing their own milk bottle mammoth and cave painting. I will be setting homework each week on Spelling Shed and Times Table Rockstar. The spelling will also be listed on the class dojo page each week. |
