Welcome to Mr Felthams' Class!

Our Topic this term is – Let's Go On An Adventure!

Welcome to Year 2 everybody!

This half term we will be very busy finding out about people who go on adventures, whether they are real life explorers like Robert Falcon Scott and Christopher Columbus, or fictional characters like Goldilocks and Jack, who climbed the beanstalk and discovered a hidden world full of secrets and surprises!

We will be following the Literacy Tree Curriculum for English, and will be writing letters, newspaper articles and stories about what we discover.

Our Maths learning this half term will be drawn from the Power Maths scheme of work, and will focus on counting and recognizing numbers to 100, as well as recognizing place values held by digits.  We will also start to tackle addition.

Phonics will be a massive feature of this half term and we will be having  additional phonics lessons every week.  We need to full the gaps in children's phonics knowledge that lock-down caused and so we will be going back over phonics patterns that children learned in Year 1, focusing on weaker areas and reinforcing these.  We will need to work at an accelerated speed in order to catch up.

Key Information

P.E is on Monday and Friday, and on these days, please could children come to school in their full outdoor PE kits.  We will also be doing Go Noodle Physical activities throughout the day, every day.

Please make sure that no earrings or other jewelry are worn on PE days.  All long hair must also be tied back, as usual.  We will be doing outdoor PE this half term, so please ensure that all children have appropriate outdoor clothing and shoes.

We will sadly not be changing our library this half term, as the library is unavailable.  Children are encouraged to read a wide range of books at home wherever possible.
