Welcome to Mrs Morris' Class!
What will we be learning this term?
Welcome back to our new school year! We have lots of interesting things for the children to learn and I am looking forward to seeing them grow and develop.
Autumn Term 1
We will be spending time, at the beginning of term, settling the children and developing routines and expectations, lots of our work will be based on keeping safe and making friends.
We will be following Power Maths across the school.
This term we will be focussing on developing the children's place value and then using this to add and subtract. Initially we will start with small numbers, as it is important that the children understand the processes and small steps.
We will continue to develop the children's understanding of phonics and applying the skills to both reading and writing. We will continue to use Monster Phonics and build on what the children learnt in Reception.
Much of our work will be based on key texts, for example; The Tiger Who Came to Tea and Cave Baby. We will be learning how to recognise and write a range of text types including; narrative, lists, captions and letters.
We will be sending home reading books and would ask that you support your child by reading regularly with them. We would also like them to read for pleasure, this could include sharing a book with an adult or rereading a favourite.
In Science we will be naming and labelling body parts and finding out about our senses. The children will be encouraged to plan and carry out their own investigations.
Our art work links nicely to our science as it is all about portraits. As part of the work we will be looking at the work of Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee and Andy Warhol. The children will experiment with different media including pencils, pastels and paint.
Our history work is based on changes within living memory and our focus will be finding out about how toys have changed since grandma (or grandad) was little.
Our work links to our history topic as it is all about programmable toys. We will be developing our coding skills and debugging skills as we work out how to take the toys around a maze.
Our P.E days are Monday and Wednesday.
Please remember that the children will be coming into school in their P.E. kits on these days.
Our PE policy states PE kit is the following: a white top, black or navy bottoms, outdoor shoes/plimsolls and a plain jumper/jacket (your child could wear their school jumper).
Please be mindful that we are trying to keep the PE kit as plain as possible.
Please also make sure that all jewellery, including earrings is removed on these days.
Please do not hesitate to contact me, via Dojo or at the end of the day, if you have any questions or concerns.
