Welcome to Miss Dilks' Class!

Welcome back after the Christmas Break! I hope that you have had a lovely Christmas and New Year and that you are ready for all our exciting learning challenges! Some of you will experience these in school and others will be doing these through home learning.

Spring 1 2021

Maths
This term we will be continuing our learning on addition and subtraction. we will be consolidating our learning on addition using part whole models and we will be continuing to develop our understanding and recall of number bonds to 10.  We will use number lines to count back and introduce the children to the word 'difference'.  We will begin to compare number sentences using the greater than >, less than < and equals = symbols.

We will be naming and sorting both 3d and 2d shapes and beginning to make patterns using the shapes.

Towards the end of the half term we will begin to work with numbers up to 20.  We will be counting, reading and writing numbers to 20, this includes writing the words for the numbers.

In order to support the learning we will primarily be using the White Rose resources as these contain video links to support the children at home.

Literacy
We will continue to develop the children's understanding of phonics and applying the skills to both reading and writing.  We will continue to use Monster Phonics and build on what the children learnt previously.

We will still be basing our learning on a different texts and we will be asking the children to complete a range of writing activities.

This term we will be introducing the children to Spelling Shed, an online program, which helps the children develop their spelling through the use of games.  We will be putting a new assignment on each week, initially these will have simple words so that the children can get used to the program.  After the children have played the required number of games they can still go on the program and can choose to play games from the Phonics and Stage 1 lists.  It would be good if they could learn to spell the common exception words through the program and would encourage you to direct them in this direction!

Afternoon Learning
Our afternoon learning will look different this term.

So that families with children in different year groups are not trying to cover multiple tasks in the afternoon we will be working on a different subject area each week.

The tasks set will be for the whole school and can be completed as a family.  A menu of activities will be put on each of the class pages on a Sunday evening/Monday morning.
Week beginning 11.1.21 - P.E.

Week beginning 18.1.21 - French
Week beginning 25.1.21 - Music
Week beginning 1.2..21 - Science
Week beginning 8.2.21 - History and Geography

Each Friday afternoon we will be having a Wellbeing Afternoon and a separate sheet of activities will be sent out for this.

PE
If your child is in school.

Our P.E days are Tuesday and Wednesday.

Please remember that the children will be coming into school in their P.E. kits on these days.

Our PE policy states PE kit is the following: a white top, black or navy bottoms, outdoor shoes/plimsolls and a plain jumper/jacket (your child could wear their school jumper).
Please be mindful that we are trying to keep the PE kit as plain as possible.
Please also make sure that all jewellery, including earrings is removed on these days.

Please do not hesitate to contact me, via Dojo, if you have any questions or concerns or if you need something from the home learning explained.
