Welcome to Reception!
Our topic this term is 'Sowing a Seed'
I am really excited about our new topic - Sowing a Seed! I can't wait to get started and I know the children have some wonderful ideas about where our learning should go...
This term we begin our literacy learning with a lovely gentle tale of The Tiny Seed - a book by the same author who wrote The Hungry Caterpillar. The illustrations are beautiful and we will use these as inspiration for our own flower collage pictures..
We will explore the parts of plants and think about how they grow and what they need to be big and strong, like the tiny seed at the end of the story!
We will plant some seeds and care for them, measuring their progress as they grow.
We will also link our learning to some lovely books about growing: Titch by Pat Hutchins, Oliver's Vegetables and Jasper's Beanstalk.
Why not take a trip to the library and see if you can borrow one of these to read at home?
In Maths we are starting to focus on shapes! The children will explore the properties of 2D shapes all over the place. We will even go on a shape hunt around school looking for different shapes in the environment.
It promises to be another busy and energetic term!
Please read our overview for more information
Don't forget to check our Class Dojo page daily for regular updates and messages as well as to see all the proud photos and videos produced by the children.
Many thanks for your continued support at home, especially with reading.
Phonics - Tricky words
Ask your child what they learnt each day in phonics. We are now teaching phonics twice a day so they should be able to tell you.

New PE day
We will now be doing PE on a Thursday morning.
This term we are learning some football basic skills!
Phonics sessions for parents
Many of the children are working so hard at home with their reading and as a result they are flying through their words! Please look out on our class dojo page for details of some phonics sessions coming soon for parents and a new home reading challenge.
Library Books - Every Monday!
Thank you for your £1 a week contributions to allow us to bake. The children love it and gain so much from the experience.
