This term we are learning about Nursery Rhymes
Welcome back, we hope you had a good summer break Hopefully we will have a much more settled year. I would like to welcome our new children and their families. We look forward to working in partnership to enable your child to have the best nursery experience as possible.
We want you all to feel part of our nursery family. If you have an issue or a concern, please come and speak to us, there is no such thing as a silly question.
The first two weeks will be a settling in period, were we will really get to know our new children. We will then introduce our Nursery Rhyme theme. The children will continue to be learning about the nursery routines and boundaries. Please remember that they are all still very young and for some children this is the first time they have had to share and develop their social skills in a new environment. Children will have disagreements and falling outs, it is normal, so please don't worry.
Please make sure your child has a coat (named) at school and as the weather gets colder, please make sure they bring a hat and gloves/mittens. Wellies can be left at school (please make sure all clothing is named).
The children will be learning lots of different nursery rhymes. We will be taking part in the nursery rhyme challenge. We will focus on one rhyme at a time and build our learning around it. We will also have a story of the week. Children will be looking at the different characters, settings and begin to retell the story in their own words. We will also be looking at non fiction books. We would like the children to send in a picture of their family so that we can make a display in the nursery.
In Maths the children will be continuing to recognise, write and count using the numbers up to 5+. We will be learning to count forwards and backwards orally, say the number 1 more than a given number, begin to make marks to represent an amount, write numbers, count objects accurately and find and use numbers as labels and subitise up to 3 (say the number of objects without counting).
In Literacy the children will be learning lots of new rhymes, listening to lots of exciting stories and looking at non-fiction books. They will be doing lots of mark making, taking part ion dough disco and digit dance. They will look at story settings and story characters and talk about how a story might end. The children will take part in a short phonics session daily.
Our role play area will be a home corner.
In our mini topic we will be learning all about Autumn. We will be looking at changes through the season. We will go on an Autumn walk around school and look at the changes that happen during this season.
