Our Topic this term is - Bright Lights, Big City
Welcome to our class page.
As part of our topic, Bright Lights, Big City, we shall be looking at different cities in England with London being the main focus. Children will use maps and investigate similarities and differences between different cities. On a creative level, we shall construct models and design and make souvenirs for tourists that visit a large city.
To support you child with this topic, please explore London landmarks and the history surrounding them.
Music: Sing traditional songs - ‘London Bridge is Falling Down’, ‘Ring a Ring a Roses’ and other rhymes/ songs.
Computing: We will continue to reinforce E-Safety with the children and focus on developing our topic through research. Children will also learn about creating and debugging programs.
As Geographers the children will be able to name the capital cities in the UK and the surrounding seas. They will be using directional language such as North, South, East and West.
As Historians we will be learning about the aspects of what life used to be like in London and what is it like now and the different modes of transport.
As Artists we will be exploring Pop Art and Andy Warhol
As scientists we will be working scientifically to learn about every day materials and their properties. They will be developing their scientific skills of enquiry and reasoning through practical experiments and observations.
English- We shall be using The Queen’s hat by Steve Antony and The Naughty Bus by Jan and Jerry Oke as our stimulus for writing. The children will be writing stories, recounts, labels, captions, letters and instructions this half of the term. We shall focus on writing extended sentences using conjunctions and a range of descriptive language. Please remember to read regularly at home.
Maths- We will be continuing to follow the Whiterose planning and will be covering Geometry: Shape & Pattern, Place value to 20 and Addition and Subtraction within 20.
PE is on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Please make sure that all jewellery is removed and that long hair is tied back.
Our homework is given out on a Friday, please can you ensure that it is completed and handed in by Thursday.
