Our Topic this Half term is - Sowing a Seed
Dear Parents, Carers and Children,
Welcome back! I hope you had a great break and are looking forward to the term ahead!
This half term the children plant a range of seeds and write instructions for seed-planting before sharing the story The Tiny Seed. They write in role as the little seed, sing a Story Song and then write in the past tense.
After exploring the idea of being small but managing to overcome adversity and grow big and strong, the children think about what they would like to become when they are grown up. Then a letter arrives from The Tiny Seed asking for help with giving other seeds advice and the children write a leaflet that will help seeds grow well.
Please see our Spring 2 Newsletter with information regarding our curriculum focus.
In line with our uniform policy, it is expected that your child comes to school in the correct uniform wearing plain black footwear. It would be great if you could label everything as jumpers and cardigans can often get lost. We try to get out children out as much as possible so please ensure they have a coat with them so they can be prepared for all weathers.
This Term PE will be on a Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. I would kindly ask that you ensure your child’s kit is always in school at these times and it consists of a white PE t-shirt, shorts, leggings/joggers and plimsolls. Please label everything as this makes it much easier to return lost items.
Reading books will be changed and returned throughout the week so it would be really helpful if your child could bring their book bag to school every day as we may hear that more than once a week. . I understand you are busy and so if you do not have time to write a comment, please just initial the log book once your child has read so I know the children have read their books. If there is no comment or initial I will assume the books haven’t been read. Your child may read their book before the week is up, that’s ok! Its great practice for them to read texts more than once to help them become familiar with a story line, build fluency and speed and to improve their comprehension.
Water Bottles and Snacks
It’s really important your child stays fueled and hydrated throughout the day in order for their brain to work at its best. Therefore I ask that your child brings in a water bottle to school. This bottle should be labeled to prevent it being lost or misplaced and filled only with water.
I hope you find this information hopeful and will endeavor to keep you informed and updated throughout the year.
Here’s to a fabulous first term in YR/1 LP!
