Welcome to Year 3/4!
Our topic this half term is, 'Stone to Iron Age'
How the curriculum will be covered....
We will base our English work on the story of The Heart and the Bottle and the First Drawing. Our cross curricular texts will help us write narrative (story), description and information texts. We will also have opportunities to learn about adverbs and we will try to extend our vocabulary so that we can choose better verbs and adjectives.
We are working our way through the White Rose Curriculum for maths, and members of year 3 and 4 will separate for maths lessons - Year 3 will stay with me and Year 4 will go to Mrs Morris. This half term we are concentrating on Place Value and addition and subtraction. There will be a very strong emphasis on problem solving and reasoning and the children will be expected to explain their working out, not just get correct answers.
Our Science theme this half term is rocks and soil. We will be classifying rocks and carrying out investigations
Art & Design -
We will be finding out about cave paintings (linked to our Literacy) and Celtic art. The children will have opportunities to develop their drawing skills and use pastels and charcoal.
Our computing theme this half term is all about developing word processing skills. Some of this will include "Unplugged" activities, which do not involve a computer, but which embed computational thinking skills.
Geography and History -
This term we are concentrating on history - we will be finding out about the Stone Age, the Bronze Age and the Iron Age. We will be thinking about how and why things changed and what skills the people would have needed to survive at this time.
In PSHE we will be talking about rules and expectations for behaviour. We will also have the opportunity to set our own goals.
In P.E. we are creating our own Stone Age dances linked to hunting and gathering. We will also be working with the Qualitas coaches developing our Handball skills.
For this half term P.E. will be on Monday and Tuesday. Please make sure that your child has P.E. kit (plain black shorts and a plain white T shirt) in school on these days. Please ensure that ear rings and any other jewellery are removed.
Our R.E is focused on finding out what different people believe about God. We will be concentrating predominantly on Christianity, Hinduism and Islam.
How can you help?
Please support your child by reading regularly at home and signing their Reading Diary.
Encourage your child to go onto Times Tables Rockstars.
Support them with learning to read and spell common exception words - each child will have an individual list of words they need to learn.
please also ensure that homework is completed and returned on Thursdays.
I look forward to working with you all this term.
