In English, we will be basing our work on two texts - Black Dog and Cloud Tea Monkey.
During the term the children will have opportunities to write different types of text. These include: Narrative, Reports, Setting description, Adverts, Poetry and Writing Dialogue.
We will be continuing with our whole class reading and this term we will continue to focus on inference and developing comprehension skills using different types of written information..
Reading regularly is essential for your child to build the skills they are learning in school. A raffle for the children will be held at the nd of the term, each time a child reads, they gain a ticket into the raffle.
Both Year 3 and 4 will be focussing on: Multiplication and Division, Fractions and start introducing some work on Geometry and Measurement.
We will continue focussing on developing our reasoning and problem solving skills.
Please can you play Times Tables Rockstars regularly at home as this will enable your child to learn their tables in a fun way. If you have lost you lgin details please let me know.
In Science we will be focussing on Light.
Asking relevant questions and using different types of scientific enquiries to answer them.Setting up simple practical enquiries, comparative and fair tests.
Making systematic and careful observations and, where appropriate, taking accurate measurements using standard units, using a range of equipment, including thermometers and data loggers.
Gathering, recording, classifying and presenting data in a variety of ways to help in answering questions.

Art & Design -
We will be finding out about creation of volcanoes.
Our computing theme this half term is all about continuing to develop our Internet research skills to enable children to seek out their own information., drawing and desktop publishing. Some of this will include "Unplugged" activities, which do not involve a computer, but which embed computational thinking skills.
Geography and History -
Our topic work is based around the Vikings and Saxons.
We will be using maps to find out where people settled
We will also be finding out about different aspects of the Viking and Saxon life.
This term we will be focussing on people who help us.
In P.E. we will be developing our invasion game skills.
For this half term P.E. will be on Monday and Wednesday . Please make sure that your child has P.E. kit (plain black shorts and a plain white T shirt) in school on these days. Please ensure that ear rings and any other jewellery are removed. Monday is the day Year Four will go swimming. Please make sure they have a suitable costume.
Our R.E is focused on 'What makes a good leader'. We will be looking at leaders from Christianity, Islam and Hinduism.
How can you help?
Please support your child by reading regularly at home and signing their Reading Diary.
Encourage your child to go onto Times Tables Rockstars.
Support them with learning to read and spell common exception words - each child will have an individual list of words they need to learn.
please also ensure that homework is completed and returned on Thursdays.
